WE Are Resilient! The Fundraiser Will Go On!

The Guild has had to make a lot of changes this year, including canceling our Annual Show. However, we still plan to support Women’s Advocates, who do amazing and important work to support families and end domestic abuse. Sadly, the level of domestic violence is on the rise due to increased stresses on families, and the need for Women’s Advocates’ help is growing. The Guild of Middle Eastern Dance is proud to continue our tradition of supporting this cause.

How you can contribute

Your donations will support the Women’s Advocates Emergency Response Fund. (Event expenses will be paid for by the Guild.)
PLUS your contributions will be doubled by the Otto Bremer Trust!

Want to perform?
There are two ways to participate. Please note that you must register to perform AND you must be a Guild member.
1 – Submit a digital file of your performance by Sunday, October 11. See digital file guidelines. OR…
2 – Take advantage of an opportunity to get a professional recording of your dance on stage at the Elision Playhouse theater with lights and sound (but no audience) on Sunday, October 11. See Elision Playhouse recording guidelines.

The online registration will begin Sunday, September 13, at 6 pm CT. We will provide a link via email and Facebook. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis. You’ll need to specify if you’ll be providing a digital file (.mp4) or participating in the theater recording day. Please limit your music to no more than 7 minutes. Registration will close once the show is full or on September 23, whichever is earlier.

Digital file guidelines
Your recorded digital file should be in landscape view (this is the wider view). Be sure to test your background, lighting and sound for quality and clarity. File type should be .mp4 format.

Elision Playhouse recording guidelines
Do you have a light and sound studio in your basement dance studio that is perfect for recording your performance? NO? Well, not many people do! That’s why we planned an awesome (and safety conscious) opportunity to use the Elision Playhouse theater to record your performance for the show. No audience, but we’ll have our awesome tech crew and videographer.

The recording day is Sunday, October 11, starting at 3:30 pm. We’ll schedule performers in 15-minute time slots (5 minutes for tech, 7 minutes to perform, and a few minutes to enter and exit the theater distanced from the next performer).

Since this is an indoor space, we’ll ask you to wear a face covering until you are on stage. You have the option of removing your face covering during your performance. We are limiting the number of people in the space to help protect all involved. There will be 3 time slots for groups of up to 4 dancers per group, and they will be scheduled just prior to a 15-minute break.

You will need to arrive in makeup and most of your costume. If there is a costume piece that you cannot put on until you arrive, you can do that once you are in the lobby. We won’t have a dressing room, but you can do a mirror check.

The theater has a strict NO GLITTER policy. Please check all of your costume, props, makeup, shoes, hair ornaments, etc. to ensure you are not wearing any glitter. NO EXCEPTIONS.

When you register, you’ll be able to indicate if you have a preferred time slot. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate your request.

If you are registered for the Elision Playhouse recording and become ill with cough, fever, shortness of breath, or have been in close contact with a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case less than 14 days prior to the recording session, you may not participate in the recording. We ask that you notify us of your cancellation as soon as possible.

Please send us your questions.

Your support is important!
Women’s Advocates needs all hands on deck to bring in support for its essential services for victims and survivors of domestic violence. The Emergency Response Fund will equip Women’s Advocates to continue supporting victims of domestic violence with 24/7 crisis intervention, emergency shelter, housing advocacy, and the mobilization of safety resources throughout the community and beyond.

WE are resilient! We can make this an amazing event!
