Show us something new!
We’ve been connecting with each other and learning in new ways, possibly experiencing new techniques with new teachers. Show us how you’ve been growing.

How to participate
There are two ways to participate in the shows. Please note that you must register to perform AND you must be a Guild member.

1 – Submit a digital file of your performance by Sunday, April 11. This should be a new piece that has not been previously shared or aired. See below for digital file guidelines. OR
2 – Take advantage of an opportunity to get a professional recording of your dance on stage at the Elision Playhouse Theater with lights and sound (but no audience) on Sunday, April 11. See Elision Playhouse recording guidelines.

Registration opens February 14
Online registration will begin Sunday, February 14, at 4 pm CT. We will provide a link via email and Facebook. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis. You’ll need to specify if you’ll be providing a digital file (.mp4) or participating in the theater recording day. Please limit your music to no more than 7 minutes. Registration will switch to “wait list” once the shows are full.

Digital file guidelines
Your recorded digital file should be in landscape view (this is the wider view). Be sure to test your background, lighting and sound for quality and clarity. File type should be .mp4 format and is due April 11.

Elision Playhouse recording guidelines
Do you have a light and sound studio in your basement dance studio that is perfect for recording your performance? NO? Well, not many people do! That’s why we planned an awesome (and safety conscious) opportunity to use the Elision Playhouse theater to record your performance for the show. No audience, but we’ll have our awesome tech crew and videographer.

Let us know your preferred session
The recording day is Sunday, April 11, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm.
We’ll schedule performers in 15-minute time slots (5 minutes for tech, 7 minutes to perform, and a few minutes to enter and exit the theater distanced from the next performer).  We can accept up to three groups with up to 6 dancers per group, and they will be scheduled just prior to a 15-minute break.
When you register, you’ll be able to indicate if you have a preference in session A (2:30 – 4:00), B (4:15 – 6:00) or C (6:15 – 7:45). We’ll do everything we can to accommodate your request. Once your registration is confirmed, we will assign you to a time slot and let you know when you should plan to arrive. (If you are assigned a timeslot and you can’t use it, please let us know so we can assign it to someone on the waitlist.)

Arrive ready to go
You will need to arrive in makeup and most of your costume. If there is a costume piece that you cannot put on until you arrive, you can do that once you are in the lobby. We won’t have a dressing room, but you can do a mirror check and apply lipstick.

Check your sparkle!
We love all things shiny and sparkly, BUT…the theater has a strict NO GLITTER policy. Please check all of your costume, props, makeup, shoes, hair ornaments, etc. to ensure you are not wearing any glitter. NO EXCEPTIONS.

BE WELL! We’re following current COVID safety guidelines at Elision
Since this is an indoor space, you must wear a face covering except when you are performing. We are limiting the number of people in the theater to help protect all involved.
If you are registered for the Elision recording and become ill with cough, fever, shortness of breath, or have been in close contact with a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case less than 14 days prior to the recording session, you may not participate in the recording. We ask that you notify us of your cancellation as soon as possible.

You can request action photography
We’ll have our photographer, Shawn Orton, available at Elision to take action photos of you during your performance. If you choose this option, you can get five or more great shots for just $25.00.

As you choose your music
We plan to share the shows on YouTube after our Zoom live event. If your music is identified and blocked by YouTube we will have to remove your piece from the YouTube version. You will need to provide your music file to us by March 21.

We hope you enjoy the process of planning your performance. Let’s make this an amazing celebration of spring!

QUESTIONS you may have

Can I perform in multiple pieces?

Yes. You can be in up to two. For example, two groups or one solo and one group.

How do I know if my membership is current?

If you aren’t sure if your membership is current, send us an email and we can check for you. If you want to become a member, go to www.theguildofmiddleeasterndance.org and sign up. If you have any issues, just send us an email.

What are the stage details?
We will be using a white backdrop with colored lighting options. The floor is sprung wood, painted black, and nice for dance shoes or bare feet. Stage dimensions: 22 ft wide, 30 ft deep. You can enter from either side, since there are black curtain wings on both sides.
