After dabbling in ballroom, Argentine tango and social latin dances, I began studying bellydance in 2005 at my local gym where I discovered my true calling in the dance universe. I was not raised to value dance as a hobby or profession so as a new dancer, I didn’t understand the importance of investing in my training, costuming, etc. The Guild of Middle Eastern Dance and my instructors have been important resources in making these opportunities accessible and affordable to dancers of all levels, and have been instrumental in my development as a dancer. I’m excited to take part in shaping the Guild’s future while broadening our presence and engagement in more diverse communities. I love introducing curious people of all ages to Middle Eastern dance, and hope they become as captivated by it as I am! I have been performing with Bellydonna since 2017 and Blue Lotus Middle Eastern Dancers since 2021. My favorite dance memories include going on bellydance “field trips” as a new dancer with my class to marvel at the live performances at restaurants, haflas and theatrical stage shows, and being a part of the Wizard of Oz Bellydance Show in 2018 and 2019.

Dancing is a lifelong interest and passion of mine. I was introduced to the fun of dance as a small girl. My father invited me to dance with him – he put my feet on top of his shoes and we “danced” together – likely we were at a wedding dance with a band playing polkas.
In my 20s, I moved to Minneapolis and I met someone who suggested we take ballet lessons together. In my 30s, I discovered contra and Cajun dance. In my 40s, I discovered swing dance. In my 50s, I discovered tango and belly dance. The tango and belly dance have been my favorite forms of dance since I turned 50.
I’m thrilled to be a member of Khazanah; a group of dancers over the age of 39 who learn and perform choreographies created by Cassandra.

I love to share the total empowerment I feel when I dance. Through dance I express my joy of music. I connect with the Earth, with my body and with others. I've had the pleasure of performing many styles of belly dance over 20 years for various audiences. I love this playful, sparkly expression of music through movement. From cabaret to fusion to courageous clown, I seek to speak from the heart and satisfy my heart’s desire. I have volunteered on the Guild board for many years because I believe in the value of self-expression through dance. It serves the soul in so many ways. I am happy to help make that available to our community.
We are always looking for volunteers to help on committees and in many other capacities! To volunteer, please contact us.
